In an “open letter” from Peltier on 9-29-99 regarding the abduction, rape, and murder of Annie Mae he makes several claims of a deal offered by Bob Branscombe to assist in gaining parole for him if he would sign an affidavit/ testify implicating a ,now convicted John Graham.
Wind Chasing Himself paints the usual flattering self portrait as a defender of his people and espousing the by rote conspiracy theories-but what catches my attention is the below statement in which he makes an attempt to verify his sincerity:
“I told him that I could not believe he was sitting there asking me to be the same type of person who lied against me and cost me my life. I am ready and willing to testify in court, under oath and after taking a lie detector test.”
That is, do the above to “prove” he isn’t lying about Branscombe.
Wasn’t that long ago on this blog an LPDOC worker and I exchanged a few comments about Peltier and I suggested the same thing-why doesn’t Peltier take a polygraph if he’s innocent? Of course the standard reply was forthcoming, that no attorney would advise his client to do so.
My response was basically that if after thirty plus years, countless appeals, and an untold amount of money stuffed down the same rat hole if it were me I wouldn’t care what advice an attorney gave me if I was innocent-especially any who hadn’t accomplished anything.
So now, as has so often been the case, we see another instance of Peltier shooting himself in the foot, and it creates the familiar conundrum emanating from his corner-being that he is willing to take a polygraph to “prove” someone has committed some personal offense to him but isn’t willing to take one to prove his proclaimed innocence.
What more personal offense can there be than if someone “lied” to put you in prison and “cost me my life”?
Easy to make such a statement and offer when odds are it won’t happen, and apparently equally as easy for Peltier to attempt to minimize Branscombe by saying he only found out a couple of years earlier he was related to Annie Mae-what relevance does that have?
Is responsibility to family or truth a time centric thing that is measured in years? What a shallow non point to make, and so typical of the absurdity the entire Peltier myth is. Even more so how many advocate for her now that aren’t related by blood? And more to the point how many for Peltier? One more thing for the Peltierites to overlook-which they are very adept at, but I guess practice makes perfect.
If there is a logic or explanation for any of what is contained in this open letter in regards to my question of why won’t Peltier take a polygraph regarding his role in the murder of Williams and Coler I would like to hear it-and please, none of the attorney advice thing.
I don’t believe for a second that an innocent person would take the fifth, or not clamour for a polygraph-but then that’s just me, I don’t have all that expert legal advice and neither am I supporting a movement in my name through donations that is going nowhere in it’s self perpetuation.
Recently I saw a comment that if Peltier is this countries Mandela as his handlers are given to claim maybe he should be sent to Robben Island where Mandela was held-now that’s a cause I’d donate to.
I’m also willing to donate to hire an independent polygraph expert to conduct the test-maybe all those AIMsters who were such great friends of Annie Mae’s would volunteer for one as well as an expression of respect and solidarity for her, something more than the lip service they pay to wanting to know the truth.
Not going to happen you say? No doubt you’re correct-but let some more indictments be issued and someone else will step up to save themselves, if they haven’t already-and that thought must be causing a lot of sleepless nights and back room conferences.
This Annie Mae movement is like that rez dog who having sunk it’s teeth into something will not let go-and that’s a good thing. No poodles, no lapdogs-rez dogs who aren’t going to back down.
