Well the good news is that the movement for Annie Mae has been defined as a some sort of quasi religion by a poster in the RoL -in that, as with all religions there must be some implied salvation-so we’re all saved now-hallelujah and can I get an amen?
Support for her has also been characterized as an act of division? Division? Really? Likened to some heinous act of shoving Annie Mae in people’s faces, and no mention here of what has, and is, being shoved in the faces of women-or perhaps that their face is shoved into the ground, the floor, or some filthy mattress in an abandoned house while they are raped, or shoved into the dirt for a physical eternity in a senseless murder.
What division is there in justice or the seeking of it? Does it separate the sheep from the goats, good from evil? If so then these are necessary divisions-separations required so children, women, and elders can live a life unafraid. No mention of the lies and silence that are being shoved in not only their faces, but those of everyone.
It is a paradox that those who seek a return to tradition and the security it provides are the ones castigated, while those who create the problems are given sanctuary through silence and inaction. That a woman like Annie Mae, who can become a rallying point for all women
and men of good heart and character will in turn be dismissed, denied, or described in effect as some icon manufactured by a quasi-religious sect.
This kind of statement, and many others to be found on the RoL are indicative of the decline that is occurring in Indian country across not only this land, but the entire hemisphere. The quasi-religion that has been constructed is the one built around the destruction of wk2, the fraudulent leaders of AIM, the autobiographies churned out accompanied with statements that hopefully they serve to cover someone’s ass, titles that speak of being a warrior, and the absolute avalanche of videos that explain all things negative in a positive light, and all things positive in negative light by self styled high priests who conduct a black mass and distribute communion wafers of words that neither absolve, or provide a link to the Creator.
Professors of the University of the Universe surrounded by their aging altar boys and calling down a photoshopped thunder, rain, and winged ones long held to be imbued with mystical power and significance. These are the divisions that need to be addressed, these are the acts of a cultural rape and abuse that in turn become physical ones, and anyone who denies the truth of these things denies the people.
Holding someone accountable isn’t accomplished by railing against or denying truths, it isn’t accomplished by silence, or minimizing the rape and murder of any woman, nor is it accomplished by saying I am a man, a strong one who protects my wife and family-while that is a good , it should be the rule rather than the exception. And what of all the sisters, and daughters and grandmothers that compose the extended family-those who should be granted the same protection and immunity in being a part of we are all related?
The nations have been under siege for what seems like an eternity-and that understandably has led to what, for lack of a better term, a siege mentality. This has been recognized and artfully employed by the false prophets, they have utilized it to qualify and deny every misdeed they have done. They have exacerbated it.
Due to the reality of this siege, and the mentality it creates, these false prophets have profited greatly at the expense of many-they have been serial offenders who have fueled the siege to the point no one suffers more than the women and children-the siege they face is multiplied by the silence and unwillingness to either discuss or address it, and the absolute refusal of men to accept the responsibility for it and correct it.
Quasi-religion? There was a very real spiritual element to warrior societies and a very real sense of responsibility to protect the women and children, one can only assume in the apparent absence of these elements that merely proclaiming oneself a warrior fails to make it a reality.
To mention any of the taboo subjects on the RoL inevitably brings the response that it is evidence of lack of respect for the lakota or their culture. On the contrary I would say that is a feeble attempt at evasion to make such an accusation, and ask are the issues addressed a part of the traditional culture of the lakota?
Aren’t they in themselves a lack of respect? I say it is the opposite, it is a respect for the lakota and all nations to stand in opposition to such things-and those who claim it be the contrary have their own agenda, and the persona they create for themselves is threatened when questions are asked. If the argument is these are internal matters to address then quit denying, or defending them with silence and address them in the communities, as the results extend beyond the boundaries of the rez, and the welfare of any woman or child anywhere is the concern of all-it is in part what makes us human beings-no one has a cultural right to abuse them.
Russell loves to make statements that captives were never taken among the nations and tortured-which is a complete delusion-the question to ask is are the women and children of the nations ever held captive, tortured, and brutalized by rape and abuse at the hands of their own. Or does he deny that as well?
There is a recognized syndrome known as The Stockholm Syndrome-it is a phenomenon that occurs where captives become sympathisers and supporters of their captors, and I think it exists today among those who rally behind the false prophets and high priests.
I believe it was Tillie Black Bear who said something to the effect that our men rape because they can- I would add to that apparently with an impunity that comes from what has been referred to as the “silence of men”
