An excellent link and I would encourage all who watch the video to sign the petition.
“Peru’s President Garcia has publicly suggested uncontacted tribes have been ‘invented’ by ‘environmentalists’ opposed to oil exploration in the Amazon, while another spokesperson compared them to the Loch Ness monster. In fact, there are more than one hundred uncontacted tribes around the world.”
Does it strike anyone besides me that as the “Chief Facilitator” Russell would seek “recognition” for the RoL from a country that denies the very existence of it’s own indigenous people something is wrong with this?
No one is claiming the absence of groups working within Peru to address these issues-their positions are not reflective of the governments and their efforts should be recognized and applauded for their efforts-but the history has always been for AIM and those various foundations they create as individuals to accept money from anyone they can get it from- that is the line that can not be crossed, and yet repeatedly has.
No recognition or assistance should be sought after or accepted from any government with records such as those as addressed in the previous blog-if it is then who those who do should just put on some make up and go stand on a street corner so there will be no illusions or pretense and the only negotiations will be over price.
The UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues is an entity whose time has come and has the potential to have a serious impact-in that context personalities and celebrity should be left at the door, it’s about the people…..plural.
And a shout out to nesotonohe for providing the link.
