A part of the effort has been to portray Russell Means etal and AIM as having an unqualified and all encompassing support among the nations -nothing could be farther from the truth as the below statement indicates.
We know exactly who and what he and they are -what he and they have done, and that we have not resigned ourselves to checks and handouts-that those who can seek employment find that while opportunities may not abound some do exist-that an effort should be made to create them with the money that is sought for bogus projects.
In my own case and lacking an education I realized early on that I could either remain in subjugation or learn skills that would enable me to break those chains, and I have done that.
Along the way I encountered a lot of obstacles and at times it would have been easy to give up, but I and others have refused to, and I believe that what any can do all can do. Nobody is saying
all will succeed, only that it is important to make the effort rather than just accept what is.
The same position I take with issues like alcoholism and drug abuse-that if so much as one person has overcome them then anyone can-it is a matter of choice and the will to do so.
This is antithetical to “our” so called liberators-it is to their advantage if we stay impoverished and disillusioned-it is their main revenue source in presenting themselves as champions of the people and “warriors’ in the fight to overcome as nothing changes due to their efforts other than their personal wealth and comfort.
I can only echo 551’s words below in advising people to do the research, to discover for themselves and to understand that much of what they read on various sites extolling AIM’s and Russell’s virtues are little more than outright lies published from satellite entities.
AIM and Russell Means have been the proverbial Trojan Horse-who they really work other than themselves remains open to question in my opinion.
The myth of WK2 as being an act of liberation is lie as well-one does not pillage a community of their own, and doing so begs the question of who held WK and who did the damage?
The simple truth of the matter is that “government” attack forces led by “tanks” and battle hardened troop never entered WK during the “siege”, they never sacked, burned, and looted-they never held hostages, raped, burned, and murdered. So how does that translate to a glorious stand by warriors fighting for their people?

” After 550 replies I’ve decided to say my piece. I am a Native American Indian (DINE) or Navajo if you will. I Know Russell Means and also a good many people in PineRidge and Rosebud. My Children are 1\2 Dine and !\2 Rosebud Lakota. My Takojas or Grandchildren are enrolled in the Rosebud Lakota Nation. Non of my family members nor my childrens Lakota ralatives have EVER recieved a government check EXCEPT for the Federal Income Tax Checks which I and Millions of Americans receive once a year IF we file for it. Nor have we ever received a Tribal paycheck from either tribe. We All Work (except for the school age children and young ones)and pay our own bills. We have friends who are white, black oriental, mexican, among other of our Native brothers and sisters. We vote in State,National, and Tribal elections. We do not receive charities from churches or other charitable organizations but do give monies to several Native and National organizations and still give of our tithes to the church which we attend in Mission S.D. We DO NOT support Russell Means or the Republic of Lakotah as my Wife’s Lakota people also Do Not support that man. Many of you who do not know about the treaties made between the various Indian Nations do not understand the complexities of those documents made by the government of the United States with these Nations. So commenting on an issue which you know nothing about is worthless and a waste of time. When great events in history occurs we want to remember that event and many Holidays began because of these events. But when shameful events happen we tend to Forget and or sweep it under the proverbial carpet. I would encourage all to Learn about one another and respect one’s right to their opinions. We cannot force our beliefs or opinions on one another. As for Russell Means, before you become entranced with his rhetoric do some research on the man. Not just his website, but check the facts, visit the Reservation town of Porcupine and Look for the Immersion School. talk with the residents of that and other communities and then you will get the real picture of who this “Leader” is. Before you donate your hard earned money check to see just how much really benefits his tribe. You just might see through the smoke screen and the Hollywood acting. Yes our people are poor. But wealth is not everything. We are rich in our families and culture. Come to South Dakota, see with your own eyes and then make up your mind. Don’t trust all news accounts or activist who say that they speak for all one people and get donations but give nothing to those people which thay proclaim to represent. Not all Whites in S.D. hate Indians and not ALL Indians hate Whites. But there is racism on both sides because of misunderstanding and lack of communication and compassion and the unwillingness to learn from our mistakes. I write this with compassion for all and a good heart and with PEACE to ALL Nations and ALL people. “
