“Harry David Hill, who had been living with Thelma Rios-Conroy during 1974-75, shows up in the Rapid City during this time from Salt Lake City, Utah, allegedly having come back from west coast meetings with Dennis Banks and Vernon Bellecourt.
Hill is subpoenaed by the prosecution to testify at Means’ trial on December 12, 1975 and is paid a travel stipend to be there.”
The above written by Paul DeMain and excerpted.
Another one of those hmm moments for me related to Dave Hill aka Mr.X is this subpoena to appear as a prosecution witness at Russell Mean’s trial in ’75. This travel allowance – if Hill did indeed snitch at any point in time would such an allowance make him a “paid informant”? Something AIM loves to accuse others of.
Seems to me to be a really questionable move on the prosecution’s behalf considering Hill was a “stand up” and committed guy when it came to AIM, not withstanding that get of jail free card he received from charges stemming from bombing Mt. Rushmore and having a handgun in his possession with an obliterated serial number that has led to suspicions he rolled over- seems like the prosecution would have considered him highly suspect as a witness, a hostile one at that, if the suspicions were entirely groundless. Maybe calling Hill was meant to be a part of the cover story, protecting an asset.
But then everything is backwards in the AIM world, kind of a reflection, a holographic image of the “bizarro” world where yet another nemesis of Superman hailed from.
Hill has currently become the voice of Radio Free Peltier, part of an ongoing process to dredge the “old AIM” stagnant pool as a matter of necessity due to attorneys and workers leaving the building through what has become a permanent fixture….the revolving door of disillusionment and internal polgroms.
Some time back in another blog while being instructed to think like Sherlock Holmes I was advised that no less a personage than federal agent Norman Zigrossi had given assurances that Hill had “nothing to offer” and Hill’s attempt was rejected- and assurance marked by sincerity, a sincerity qualified I would saying by the addition of what appears to be a disclaimer – that the feds don’t give up informants WHILE THEY ARE ALIVE – so unless Hill is being stored in a cryochamber and repeatedly being thawed and reanimated he is very much alive.
I suspect that the while they are alive part is true, a sincere statement, if not they would never have any informants.
Rolling over to save one’s own skin whether red, black, brown, yellow, white, or any combination thereof isn’t something new, some novel approach restricted to any organization, criminal element, or ethnicity, nor is betrayal – in fact it seems to be kind of commonplace- and the higher up the ladder the more someone has to lose, the potential when the hammer is dropped to discover it has been replaced with it’s bigger brother the sledgehammer.
But also being higher up easier I suspect to hide in plain sight while pointing fingers at others.
By that metric the possibilities become endless, possibilities that are not exclusive of the AIM leadership who had and have the most to lose.
Russell Means proved his willingness when fingering Vernon Bellecourt as being the mastermind behind the murder of Annie Mae Aquash, of course that will be portrayed as doing a public service, something they reject when the shoe is on the other foot.
Get busted a few times, dragged into court or before grand juries behind closed doors and that survival instinct, especially for sociopaths, could quite easily kick in. Would also explain the teflon coating they seem to be covered in and validate the axiom of no honor among thieves.
Speculating in such a manner may not be Holmesian but I tend to think Holmes wouldn’t have overlooked or dismissed any possibilities, and if that’s the approach to take, the Holmes one, no one else should either.
As I’ve stated before, I don’t believe either side is telling the whole story, but to admit to anything previously denied opens up a whole ‘nother can of worms.
Quite honestly I sometimes wonder with Hill’s ascension if there is an inner benevolent protective order of AIM perpetrators and snitches willing to set differences aside looking out for each other, kind of like the scenario in The Odessa File ? The old guard ruminating over past days, closing ranks as necessity demands, and plotting a new AIM Reich to be maintained in a generational perpetuity.
Think about this a moment – Hill, the thoroughly discredited and laughable man behind the Mr.X mask droning on for the camera in affected voice and mien….yes Peltier was wronged – Mr. X lays claim to murdering agents Williams and Coler thereby stealing Peltier’s thunder, Peltier’s own assertions that he was a brave and mighty warrior who fought courageously and “his” people recognize him as a “hero”.
Get real, even Hollywood couldn’t make this kind of bs up – talk about “political comebacks”, Richard Nixon’s pales in comparison to Hill’s.
But then maybe they’ve all just kissed and made up.
Ultimately people should examine all the vagaries surrounding AIM with a generous dose of commonsense – too many of them not to speak to other things. Too many vagaries, too many lies, conflicting stories, revisions, too many wannabe chiefs and not enough ndns, too many victims as well.
