Everyone from the DOJ to AIM, Peltier, and all inbetween need to stop playing games, to either put the charade aside and come clean or dummy up without speaking another word and let people draw their own conclusions based on what is known.
The denials, accusations, and assumption people are so ignorant they’ll accept whatever bs is offered has gone well beyond arrogance, it has become as criminal as the murders AIM committed and the feds in your face unwillingness to hold AIM or themselves accountable.
What an advantage over justice, to be able to dictate what the public has access to and what they don’t, the ability to bar the doors of courts while claiming this is a country that honors and abides by the rule of law.
What an advantage over justice to be a member of a criminal organization such as AIM and know you are secure from prosecution for murders committed.
Had the government done it’s job the nations would not have been burdened with the tyranny of AIM or the divisive facade of Peltier’s freak show.
We as a people might have had an opportunity to move forward, to collect ourselves and focus on our needs rather than being played by both sides.
The children and survivors of victim would have had the opportunity to close a chapter in their life and get on with living, a gravesite to visit, and perhaps memories of better times to return to rather than nagging questions and the sure knowledge “justice” has betrayed them.
With the exception of the survivors of slain agents Williams and Coler those of AIM’s other victims represent minority demographics – they were either of the nations, black, or mixed ancestry – what message is sent in that? The fact that there is no justice for them?
Is it the usual one that we are deemed to be people of a lesser significance? That as long as murders, rapes, and various assorted crimes are committed among us by our own it really isn’t all that important?
That while literally millions can be spent on high profile cases in the mainstream somehow there is never enough to do likewise when it comes to minorities? It’s always a matter of “funding”, “resources”, and “insufficient” manpower?
If that’s the case, or it’s merely a matter of indifference, then those practicing this selective bias need to get the hell out of our judicial systems, out of our lives, and forgo the doublespeak, the pretense.
Honor, respect, and the ability to mutually coexist in a meaningful manner are not the result of of holding a cudgel over the heads of people – a cudgel known as the reservation system and the “courts”.
Five hundred plus years of this bullshit, five hundred plus years of manipulation, machinations, and the rape of everything we have been and hold dear.
So common that it has led to emulators within our communities like the apple trash of AIM leadership, human excrement like Banks, the Bellecourts, Means, Crow Dog, and their cohorts.
Rez politicians cut from the same cloth as those who strut about the national stage lying through their teeth and feathering their own nests…and always, always, the same poverty, the same need, the same oppression, the same lies, the same bullshit.
Our lives, our welfare, our victims, have been assigned the same value of the innocent victims of drone strikes in Afghanistan and elsewhere whose deaths are deemed “acceptable” – we are being droned, in fact have been for centuries, with a monumental indifference of callous disregard and inequity.
We have become in addition to being the “ndn problem” a media and internet petting zoo, photo ops, an opportunity to tsk tsk and tut tut, and perhaps for some, but not all, a chance to flog themselves over a perceived inheritance of generational guilt bequeathed by the boat people ancestry of this nation.
For those who don’t fall into this category time to get onboard, time to set aside the romantic imagery of a brave AIM leadership riding off to battle while posing for the camera and intoning their trite version of it’s a good day to die, and instead advocate for justice regardless of where that leads.
For those who do, get a life and get out of the way.
For the nations, stop trying to meet the expectations, to live up to the image of the net and what others would perceive us to be, instead remember and be who we are.
So has the tact I’ve taken caused me to be on a “list”? Led to any being angered or my falling into disfavor? Ask me if I give a rip, as there are things far more important than dystopian Orwellian lists and Hollywood imagery.
