We got the bully pulpit
And the poisoned pen
We got a press no better
Than the public men
This brave new world
Gone bad again
God’s finest little creatures
Looking brave and strong
Whistling past the graveyard
Nothing can go wrong
Quoting from the scriptures
With patriotic tears
We got the same old men
With the same old fears
Standing at attention
Wrapped in stars and stripes
They hear the phantom drummers
And the nonexistent pipes
These days the buck stops nowhere
No one takes the blame
But evil is still evil
If dirt were dollars we’d all be in the black as Don Henley sang- unfortunately they aren’t, neither do they grow on trees, and as they migrate up to the one pencenters via the vehicle of trickle up economics times have become increasingly difficult for those living on the edge.
There’s no end to governmental favoritism if you’re “too big to fail”, or if you can be cast as a jobs provider or creator.
Doesn’t matter how low the wage, how few the benefits, or what “regulations” you routinely violate, it’s all about takin’ care of bidness and the ever growing standard of service oriented jobs like flipping burgers are just what the economy needs.
I don’t know if corporations are allowed to claim money they funnel into lobbying efforts or the pockets of candidates they own, but if not in the spirit of fairness and transparency they should be able to – after all the Supreme Court has in effect granted them human status.
Exception being the individual humans who make up the corporate entity are basically immune to lawsuits, even to an admission of guilt, all they have to is settle as an entity and it’s all good.
The “land of the free” – free from what? Inequity, injustice, and what is becoming an indentured servitude?
The same old men with same old fears – a fear that the barbarians at the gate might be able to live a decent life – and if so it could cost them a penny on each dollar they’ve stolen from the citizens of this country.
The latest is the CIA spying on Senate members and the predictable outrage expressed by the very Senators who have marched in lockstep when it came to legislation and behind closed doors agreements involving domestic spying on a civilian population.
Were they really so naive to think they were immune?
