History can be said to exist in a state of flux. New discoveries, interpretations, and wishful thinking are the way of it.
Too often bias enters the equation and often enough deliberate manipulation as in what the interpreter would like it be.
Kind of muddies the water and in my opinion is a form of theft as it denies what belongs to people as a birthright – the truth.
It’s fairly well established that Columbus wasn’t the “first” – he didn’t “discover” much of anything – the Vikings had preceded him by a few centuries and there are signs that the Chinese may have as well.
Whoever was “first” though would have come to the realization that this entire hemisphere was already inhabited.
Had the nations of unified at the first signs of encroachment what ensued would have been different.
Had we of had the weaponry and material of war matching that of the “discoverers” we would be the ones doling out Visas, passports, and allotments…..wishful thinking but an alternative reality that might have been.
The above photos sent to me by a sister – the one speaks to what could have been and the other to a reality.
