As a people the nations find themselves in an entirely different world than what has been the hereditary one, and the truth is for many we haven’t quite found our way around yet.
Others thinking they have may have, or they may only be fooling themselves while making the wrong “adjustments”.
Either way though we have always defended our own, our land, and our way of life – that is a part of our history as well as that of others on a global and historical level.
It seems to me that this “defense” takes a wrong turn at times, that what is defended is indefensible and what should be isn’t.
It’s about more than life and limb, it’s about who we are and what we have been. The future we are creating each day and will leave behind.
At the core of that are our traditions and ceremonies.
It’s a given that over time generational changes will occur, but the marketing of such things is anathema.
If we allow this to continue or participate little difference will exist between us and the Catholic Church, or the faux “tribes” springing up all over the place.
Reasons exist for what occurs, that isn’t to say they are valid or logical, merely a part of the cause and effect principle.
I’m interested in causality, I want to understand why things happen, whether they are a “random” event or deliberate.
This curiosity, or desire to know has led me to believe that much of what is going on in ndn country today has it’s origins in the formation of AIM in the sixties, the disproportinate influence they have wielded often predicated on force and intimidation……not to mention the complete lack of respect they have exhibited for traditional leadership and beliefs.
Though on the wane now they’ve had the ability to influence people to the extent that if you didn’t think they’re great warriors then you could only be a hater or a sellout.
If you questioned anything they did you could “disappear”, your family and children could be threatened, no small thing in a closed society such as the rez is.
If you entertain any questions or doubts about the AIM marionette Leonard Peltier then you must be a fed.
Peltier of all people, a bloated, noxious, whining gas bag of a person promoted as a “hero”. That in itself should be enough to sound the alarm.
But then when you take into consideration the AIM leadership it’s easy to see they’re cut from the same cloth.
Guess saying so makes me a hater, sellout, and a fed – like I care about the opinions of grifters and their stooges.
