Smoking gun seems to be a very appropriate title for this particular blog (though not a smoking gun blog referenced previously that will appear soon following verification of a couple of things) as the reader will see with the below:
It is only one though in an AIM landscape that literally abounds with them in the form of unbridled greed, scams too numerous to count, murder, rape, and the decades long cascade of wool intended to cover the eyes of those targeted by grifters.
Denial is no longer an option for the misguided true believer, or should I say victims who have been duped either out of their money or their support.
Consider that this is only the tip of the iceberg, “donations” in the form of checks or such that had to be reported and couldn’t be hidden like cash could. Factoring that in it isn’t a stretch to speculate the “take” could have been double the amount reported, perhaps even more – and I’ll ask the same question I did just a blog or two ago……what is the status of the Ibank “founded” by Means?
Consider too the scam Russell ran with his nine million dollar lawsuit against the Cleveland Indians, hurriedly settled on the way out of town for a paltry $35,000 split between Means and his cohort.
What became of Means share? After being pressed for an explanation he said it went to fund Yellow Thunder Camp – a motley and meager collection of tents and sleeping bags Russell later abandoned when it no longer generated “donations” – Russell announced he “got tired of babysitting”…..minimum investment, large return- Russell’s business model.
Consider as well his infamous Chinle defense where he kicked sovereignty for the nations under the bus in asserting the Dine had no authority to prosecute him for assaulting his then one armed eighty year old father-in-law.
A ranch valued at over a half million dollars while the vast majority of his “neighbors” – the very ones he shed crocodile tears over about having to dig in dumpsters, struggle just to get by.
The costs associated with trucks, trailers, and horses alone could have made a tremendous difference in the lives of many……but then “Crazy Horse/Sitting Bull had to have a herd for status didn’t he? And to hell with those hungry, cold, and raggedy children who make great props for those heartfelt weeping moments.
If so much as a single person believes any of this is defensible, that it serves to qualify Means as a “statesman”, freedom fighter, liberator, or akin to Crazy Horse or Sitting Bull let them step up to make their case in this blog-any who feel they cannot and yet are a supporter need to take a long hard look at the bs they’ve bought into and accept the reality that they were hosed.
When Russell passed on I blogged that there was still money to made -what is going on in his name is proof of that-word is an attempt is being made to raise donations for a Russell Means Library on PR- I suggest people be on the outlook for an Indiegogo “fundraiser” or something similar.
Kind of makes you curious about the tax returns of Clyde “I am AIM Inc” Bellecourt, Dennis “I know nothing” Banks, and Leonard “chief of chiefs” Crow Dog doesn’t it? Not to mention LPDOC or whatever name they want to be known as now.
As to the Tipi Prototype, I’ve seen it, and having worked in construction all my life I can only say if it cost a hundred and thirty thousand to build the Means estate probably has some oceanfront property in Arizona they’d be willing to sell.
Office costs of 93k – would that be the “office” located in the residence of Tara, I mean the ranch?
Word was prior to Russell’s demise he was involved in a dispute with the IRS -anyone know the outcome of that?
The below are copy/pastes of comments made in the blog IN THE AIR TONIGHT by a woman who understands and possesses a keen sense of what is what is right or wrong, a true friend of the nations and a warrior in her own right.
“Today, after becoming aware of yet another fund raiser by Pearl Means , this one in Santa Fe,claiming the raising of funds for the Treaty Educational programs, I looked at the income tax returns for the Treaty Total Immersion Educational Endowment Fund from year 1998 to year 2011, one by one. I did not have the time to actually peel all the layers of the entries and deductions, but I added some figures which I thought might be interesting. The assets are the Russell Means ranch value at about $550,.000, an in kind total of Euros, gold and silver valued at $49,000, and cash. In adding all of the cash contributions outlined for this non-profit organization, the total comes up to the amount of $!,574,696 for years 1998-2011. The main yearly expenses are travel, office and ranch operating expenses, feasts and giveaways and a huge amount of non-categorized expenses (miscellaneous, or “other”).
Horses and upkeep of horses are also very high on a yearly basis. The least amount disbursed is “scholarships” (except an unusual $28,000 in 2011, the other years being practically nothing) and donations or charities.
During a period of ten years, for instance, travel expenses amount to $130,000 with a narrative to IRS that Russell Means’ travels on behalf of the fund are billed to the fund. Office cost for the same period of time are $93,270.00 , and feasts and giveaways are $59,000. During those ten years, on the other hand, educational expenses are $15,261 for 9 years, and counting the unusual amount stuck under this category in 2011, $42,125 for ten years. The miscellaneous expenses alone in three years amounts to $71,263. (unaccounted for). There are also some hefty fees for attorneys, and consultants, in the thousands of dollars each year, not to speak of insurance, health cost, clothes, food, etc…
As said before, I have not taken the time to do a thorough job of auditing those returns, leaving out of the equation the construction cost of a tipi established at more than $50,000, the cost of purchase of four horses and their maintenance, the repair of the gravel road of the ranch and the fencing of the ranch, all paid by the cash contributions of friends of AIM. Etc.. etc… And my question is: where is the school? where are the students? Where is the curriculum? What benefits to the education of Indian children are we talking about here? And building on such a history of expenditures, Pearl Means continues to appeal to the naive donors and their purses for donations to educate Indian children , or for what purposes? Please do let me know if there is an actual functioning school.
I am sorry my account is not very thorough… I have left some large expenses out of this quick overview. In particular, there are $22,000 in 2003, and $4,362.00 in 2005 , a total of $26.362.00 for the production of “giclee art ” by Russell Means. , the purchase of two trucks, , a “valley trailer” to the amount of $35,000, and the cost of horses was $38,500 in 2003… As for the Tipi Prototype, the amount spent on that was $130,000.00.”
In the original blog I extended an invitation to anyone who felt they could offer an explanation, none was forthcoming, so I will issue the invitation again and specifically invite anyone related to the “estate” to present an explanation.
