A change of pace, a momentary respite, and an homage.
Grandmother’s a classic, everything that comes to mind when the word is spoken, that and more.
Her personal radar is such the military would be envious. You can no more fool grandmother than you can mother nature – and in a way that’s how I see her. Natural, an earth mother, part of the land, not separated by pretense or affectation.
If somethings in the wind she knows it and ready to confront it head on with no holds barred.
Have a question or a problem she’s got the answer or solution, but feels it isn’t polite to offer either without being asked, unless she considers it to be something urgent.
The most notable exception is if someone is sick, injured, or not feeling well, then she’s in charge and isn’t going to broker any foolishness.
Like most of the nations women her life wasn’t a bed of roses, lot of hardship and heartbreak, but she’s a survivor and arrived at a point where she is happy and comfortable, honored and loved.
Though she would never think it so it is her due, she earned and deserves it.
Life is for living and grandmother intends to do just that- she’s got her groove on and a example to younger women, those she calls daughter and granddaughter.
I’ve had more than one of these daughters and granddaughters tell me in the person grandmother is they have learned what it is to be a woman of the nations.
High praise, and appropriate, as above all else that is who grandmother is, she is a woman of the nations, tradition based, “old school”, and anchored that way.
The person she is exemplifies both the word elder and the need for them if we are to remain anything more than a facsimile of who we have been and who we should be.
Grandmothers and grandfathers, each irreplaceable not only to families but the nations – if you aren’t listening to them shame on you.
