Looks like another twofer Tuesday.
As a people we have much to lament, in doing so such sorrow should be turned into action.
This word lamentation came to mind when thinking of the fiasco AIM created around the effort to assist Vern Traversie.
In retrospect I’m inclined to believe Traversie laments ever having turned away from those who originally sought to help him – who raised something in excess of three thousand dollars to meet immediate needs, and opted instead to bring the AIM circus to town.
Water under the bridge now as Traversie finds himself for all intents and purposes kicked to the curb as more “lucrative” and attention garnering issues beckon and the covey of grifters rushes headlong to insert themselves into them.
The business/profit model is the motivation, of course you have to dress up the presentation but that’s what it’s really about – theater and putting on a performance.
Business and profit from pe sla to Keystone, from name branding ceremonies to indiegogo in an attempt to raise fifty thousand dollars to “celebrate” the destruction visited upon WK2 by AIM as an act to ‘liberation”.
“Colonized” ndns long on talk and short on substance attempting a high wire act with a little of the language thrown in and talk of tradition serving as a safety net – a calculated plausible deniability so common to all politicians.
Politicians? Without a doubt, as they like all politicians craft a persona, seek recognition, promote themselves, and have a burning desire to be seen as leaders and the facts be damned. Politicians who see AIM as a deal maker or deal breaker so better to stay on their good side.
Politicians who may or may not ignore the realities in private when it comes to AIM’s criminal history, Peltier, or Graham in pursuit of their own career who haven’ t the integrity to discuss them openly or honestly while in pursuit of their own “career”. Politicians who favor the smoke screen of “healing” by ignoring or “forgiving” even as the wounds fester, even as families ask not for justice, but merely a repatriation of the remains of loved ones.
I read something a while back where the actor Clint Eastwood was invited to speak at a function, his presentation involved speaking to an empty chair as though it were a person or a person occupied it.
Much was made of it – yet I see no difference in that or doing a video presentation outlining how a different presentation to be made was rehearsed in front of an image of Obama.
This type of what I’m going to say as opposed to the actual event is like one of those “unboxing” videos where apparently the arrival of something ordered has huge implications and demands a video be made of it’s unveiling, then to turn it over and over in ones hands.
I don’t know what that accomplishes other than a little personal airtime.
Now maybe an uploaded video featuring an individual telling you what they’re going to say has a value for some other than the uploader – it doesn’t for me and seems a lot like pandering for attention, sort of a here’s your chance to rsvp for coming attractions.
Public attention generally is short lived, for some to maintain it they feel a need to engage in these sort of video presentations and for them it becomes something of a necessity if not an addiction.
They’re not addicted to love as Robert Palmer sang, they’re addicted to themselves and attention, they find it simply irresistible.
Great songs and a real hoot to see indigenous women I know lip-sync and dance their way through these songs.
In addition I find it in very poor taste when indigenous sites feature “sponsored ads” by law firms on the same page devoted to Traversie, gives the appearance of crass commercialism.
Traversie lost his case in court, I wonder if his representation acted entirely on the basis of a contingency fee, pro bono, or if any money from fund raising events went to that end?
