Are these children your enemy? Do you view them as nits that will become lice as our children once were?
People can be sold just about any bill of goods if presented properly – one sure fire way is to portray an event, action, or policy in the light of a necessary evil if security and safety are to be prioritized.
It should be obvious to one and all that the indiscriminate killing of non combatants so characteristic of drone strikes isn’t going to endear the U.S. to anyone.
In fact it is well established that such a policy insures a generational hatred among victims that breeds terrorists.
In the context drones become an instrument of terrorism among civilian populations and one need ask themselves if non combatant men, women, and children are viable targets based on ethnicity, language, skin coloration, or religious beliefs?
I find it odd that there was time when the nations were viewed as such for these very reasons and yet now a great romanticism has swept the land for the same reasons.
That now we hear the tut tut and tsk tsk about how we were treated, how horrible the realities were and are among those inequities that still linger.
As a people the nations have nothing in common with the religious or ideological beliefs of those being droned – what we do have in common is that we are different in language, ethnicity, and beliefs, and that was all it took to “justify” the “collateral damage” when it came to our women and children.
Donald Trump advocates for the murder of families related to terrorists – it could be said that serial killers or rapists like Ted Bundy, Son of Sam, or John Wayne Gacy were terrorists, should their families likewise be murdered?
If the answer is no then perhaps any who would respond in such a way yet agree with Trump could explain the difference – explain if a moral ground exists for those who hold it and on the basis of what?
Sometimes diplomacy works, sometimes it doesn’t. Sometimes war works, sometimes it doesn’t – the killing of non combatant men, women, and children never does, nor does foreign adventurism based on greed.
