A strong case has been made that Adolph Hitler found the reservation system and eugenics laws/movement in this country to his liking, there are communications that verify this.
When you dig a little deeper you can’t help but wonder if he was also enamored of the various “racial purity” acts that existed at one time or another in America as the ones instituted in Nazi Germany seem to have in many way ways been modelled after them.
The state of Virginia for instance enacted legislation known as the Racial Integrity Act in 1924 – a curiosity about this is what became known as the “Pocahontas exception”.
Apparently by that time a romanticism had evolved around Pocahontas and more than a few Virginians claimed an ancestral link.
As thinly disguised as an assortment of sterilization acts were to address the “feeble minded”, convicts, and assorted others thought to be worthy of sterilization it too was by and large racially motivated and genocidal in nature.
The below quote attributed to a Dr. Joesph DeJarnette of the Western State Hospital in Virginia wasn’t an opinion singular to him:
“Germany in six years has sterilized about 80,000 of her unfit while the United States — with approximately twice the population — has only sterilized about 27,869 in the past 20 years. … The fact that there are 12,000,000 defectives in the U.S. should arouse our best endeavors to push this procedure to the maximum… The Germans are beating us at our own game.”
Eugenics and “racial integrity” a game?
Among these 12,000,000 defectives were the indigenous people of this country, and while the actual warfare of guns and bullets had passed war was still being waged against the nations.
Virginia wasn’t the only state concerened about “defectives” and racial integrity, merely one of great many – a history not easy to stomach but nonetheless one that cannot or should not be denied as the both racism and the concept of “defectives” is alive and thriving in modern society.
