Though a variety of things occur during campaign seasons this particular election year could best be described as a party centric fugue state, a type of dissociative amnesia characterized by an attempt to construct a new identity.
Candidates attempt to disassociate themselves from who they’ve been hoping the electorate forgets and the electorate does likewise when it comes to values they’ve expressed.
Seemingly no recollection from one day to the next of previous events, revelations, flip flops, or anything.
But the difference is this is a selective and self induced amnesia that is cultivated, and once having been cultivated clung to like a lifeboat following the sinking of the Titanic.
Nobody knows anything, nobodies done anything (especially the standard bearer), and nobody can remember anything.
Obama recently said people in other countries don’t understand what’s going on with this election.
I’d say that’s putting it mildly, it’s like saying Habanero peppers are a little spicy – not only do they not understand and for good reason, but I’m beginning to doubt if anyone in this country does either.
