I am convinced that the tribalism and lack of unity in the past played a large role in the realities the nations have had to contend with.
If this unity had been evidenced as is being demonstrated today related to DAP the landscape we live in might well be entirely different.
This unity is a thing to build on and may be the only way in which our voices will be heard and acted upon.
As a people, as nations, we are obliged to address current issues and inequities, and we should not forget in this diligence that with an eye to the future we are creating an inheritance for our children and all who follow – the children of all nations.
We speak of fossil fuels and water as though being fossil fuels and water, we say water is life and it is, but I remember the words of a grandfather who said to me both are the blood of the land – they are our mother’s blood just as our blood runs through our veins, and being born of this common mother no single nation has a proprietary claim as this blood knows no boundaries others than those constructed by man, nor is it the responsibility of a single nation to respond.
So it is just that the nations unite, for we have lost, had stolen, ceded, sold, or leased too much and paid a terrible price as the result.
We are a people who populate the length and breadth of this entire hemisphere – if we remember that and act accordingly we cannot be denied.
