There’s a weird fairly juvenile movie by the name of Idoicracy that came out a few years ago, it isn’t much of stretch to draw comparisons between the movie and the nature of the current campaign presidential campaign – presidential being something of a misnomer.
This election may be the greatest display of lying and subterfuge to ever hit the airwaves, and not just the occasional lie but an endless array from everything to claims that the Clinton Foundation directs ninety percent of the money it rakes in to charitable efforts to nearly every other word emanating from the mouth of Trump.
You would think by now the public would be so fed up they would be willing, even eager, to vote for any candidate other other than Trump or Clinton – which one could say would be an act of conscience for surely any who will vote for either Trump or Clinton has set principles and values aside.
How so you might ask? Well for starters would you have as your family physician, school bus driver, school teacher, or even a friend with such suspect and questionable character?
If the answer is no then you’re going to have a difficult time explaining why you would cast your ballot for such a person to be president?
Not only that but it might be interesting to know why you would be willing to overlook such traits in an elected official?
“Free elections” ? I have to question that when the money and national committees do everything in their not inconsiderable power to promote and ordain the candidate of their choice.
A glitch in that though with Trump becoming the nominee but not so with Clinton,
but then the Republican party has been so out of touch and inept perhaps it was to be expected.
The cats clearly out of the bag if there was ever any doubt that the Republican Party doesn’t give a damn about what’s right or wrong – the proof in the pudding is the gutless manner in which they lined up behind Trump until the heat became unbearable.
Prior to that nothing mattered but the “party” and solidarity behind a certifiable lunatic.
On the other hand the Democratic Party didn’t and apparently wouldn’t care if their candidate were Lizzie Borden as long as it’s woman this time around.
I wouldn’t refer to any woman as “nasty” as Trump did but I have no qualms about calling one a fraud when they manifest it as overtly as Clinton has, and she is that…. a fraud and a corporate stooge.
This election is going to be about “the lesser of two evils” more so than any other in modern times, and that’s the real shame, the real wake up call for all the talk of democracy and the high values of America if the best that has been offered is two candidates with the highest unfavorability and lack of trustworthiness in an election since who knows when.
If Sanders or Biden had been the nominee they would have already put this clown Trump to bed – and the same could be said of just about any other potential Republican candidate that would have ran against Clinton.
I don’t consider “choice” to be any part of the equation when you have to chose between Beavis and Butthead or Pinky and the Brain.
What you are confronted with is either sitting it out or the coercion of the lesser of two evils as the voter determines who that would be.
The meme though is if you sit it out or vote third party as an act of conscience you’ll assure the victory of whoever wins, not to mention undermining the very existence of democracy itself – and that sounds an awful lot like coercion and unfettered propaganda to me.
Obama in a campaign speech in Florida for Clinton said at some point you have to stand for something more than party – my point exactly – a point directed at Republicans but I submit it works both ways.
