Chase Iron Eyes is running for a Congressional at large seat in North Dakota and I’m not in the least bit surprised for a couple of reasons:
One being in the era of Trump and Hillary it’s as natural and predictable as the seasons.
The other being I’ve predicted as much over the years in this blog and elsewhere.
Chase envisions himself as a sort of larger than life individual, a “real last Indian” destined to go down in history – maybe a new Wovoka or Black Elk – perhaps he wants to be seen as the next Crazy Horse as his hero Russell Means implied he himself was, or a “spiritual leader” as another corrupt bogus personal hero Dennis Bank$ believes he is.
Chase like all politicians is careful about associations, for that reason even though his site Last Real Indians is nothing more than an AIM satellite and personal grooming promotion vehicle he’s quick to point out he doesn’t actually belong to AIM but has family who do.
It’s kind of like Trump attempting to distance himself from David Duke and the Klan, or Putin and Russia.
Some would interpret that as not being ready to come out of the closet yet – doesn’t matter if he is or not though in view of the way he panders to and defends AIM and individuals like John Graham and Leonard Peltier.
Chase is onboard with Black Lives Matter and Red Lives Matter, nothing wrong with that but I question the commitment to Red Lives Matter when the abduction, rape, and murder of Annie Mae Pictou Aquash isn’t worthy of his attention.
I question the commitment to Black Lives Matter when the life of civil rights worker Perry Ray Robinson jr, another AIM victim, isn’t worthy of his attention, or any statement that all lives matter when it comes to the murder of federal agents Ron Williams and Jack Coler or AIM’s murdered victims at WK2.
It’s of interest to me that during the Burns Refuge occupation Chase wrote an opinion piece suggesting that perhaps the nations should support the occupiers, completely throwing the Burns Paiute under the bus whose ancestral land it is and who said they wanted them off their land.
If that sounds like a chapter taken from leksi Russell that’s because it bears a remarkable similarity to Russell Means Chinle defense where he threw the concept of tribal sovereignty under the bus for the Dine and in essence all the nations by proclaiming since he himself wasn’t Dine they had no authority to arrest of try him for assaulting his eighty year old one armed father in law.
Roll on Chase, Russell would be proud, you’ve snatched the pebble from his hand.
In the ’99 Oyate statement they said AIM was nothing and what we need as a people isn’t a bunch of wannabe chiefs flying around the country, that still holds true, so roll on Chase, Russell would be proud.
Tókhi wániphika ní with all that Chase – you can fool some of the people some of the time but not all of the people all of the time.
