Animism has existed as worldwide belief to greater and lesser degree depending on culture.
All people, all ethnicities have their roots in both a tribal way of life and animism, neither “civilization” nor technology is able to change that though some people may have difficulty in acknowledging it.
The richest and most “cultured” individuals ancestors once clad in skins roamed as hunter gathers believing all things possessed a spirit.
Of course society has become too sophisticated, it’s not about simplicity but complications and modern day rituals of roaming the net, shopping at the mall and idolizing movie stars, sports figures, and of course I’m with Hillary or Make America Great Again.
Out with the old and in with the new whether any of it actually works or not.
Children equate the supermarket to a farm as friend once said and in doing so know little to nothing about the universal wonder of life.
Society has come to believe that what they own or don’t own defines them in some manner, their basic worth.
We as humans are an evolving species that have attained an intellectual superiority over all things, we dominate, the benefits of which are indisputable from climate change, pollution, and never ending regional or global conflicts.
We embrace and thrive on competition, conspiracy theories, and like Orwell’s 1984 we apparently always must have at least one enemy.
We multitask complaining that there aren’t enough hours in the day even while we further complicate our lives and rush to purchase time saving devices that we then become tethered to and continue complaining as we surrender our very humanity – our very ability to direct the course of our lives.
We agree to and accept every new “privacy” or “security” update from Google or FaceBook believing that it doesn’t make any difference if Google facilitates the tracking of an individual by data miners from one site to another and makes hundreds of millions of dollars by doing so.
It doesn’t matter that Google or Yahoo claim the right to read every email you send and archive any attachments.
Or that they, Microsoft, Verizon and the rest of the players facilitate back doors for governmental domestic spying.
The new tribalism is corporate greed, Capitalism without accountability, and as long as we can further that in buying all the new toys we seemingly don’t much care.
Religion isn’t the opiate of the masses, materialism is – we’ve been sold a bill of goods and never bother reading the fine print, then complain some more.
Below is an interesting link, the video it contains even more so – food for thought I would think.
And yes I know “if you aren’t doing anything wrong then you have nothing to be concerned about”.
Who do you think authored such a response and who would profit by it if you buy into it?
My response to that has always been and remains is if you truly believe that post your passwords where everyone can see them – post all your bills, finances, and medical records in the same manner.
Never draw the shades in your house – replace the walls in your bathroom and bedroom with glass, tell your neighbors to feel free to open and read the mail the postman delivers.
Expose every nuance about yourself and allow all things to be known by everyone rather than a select few who are pimping what they do know, who are manipulating your life.
It has become about things, cold, sterile, inanimate disposable things and nobody seems to really give a damn due to the distractions they provide.
I submit it is better to assign some level of a spirit to the natural world than soul less entities like those listed above – I submit it is more civilized to do so.
