Kindness, cookies, and coffee……..
Well, I’m sorry, but that’s a tactic that wouldn’t work with me – I don’t believe kindness and mugging go hand in hand.
A national mugging is taking place and I’ve yet to hear of a mugger offering their victim a cup of coffee and a cookie.
Several years a go I was approached by a panhandler asking for change, I had around a dollar or so in change and offered it to him, then to be told that wasn’t enough.
I guess it was the tone or the attitude but I didn’t make any apology and told him that was as good as it gets and put the change back in my pocket intending to move on.
At that point he produced one of those can openers I’ ve heard people refer to as a “church key” – not much of weapon and I couldn’t help but laugh.
I guess that angered him or wounded his pride such as it may have been and he took a swing at me with it – long story short in the end he lost the change I would have given him and the church key.
That doesn’t make me an expert on muggers but it does serve as a personal point of reference.
A muggers intent is first of all to intimidate and secondly to remove their victim of whatever valuables they may have.
If the tax burden is increased for the working and middle class something of value has been taken from them, and that would be their money.
But it’s about more than just having your wallet lifted, deregulating safety controls in the workplace poses risks.
Deregulating safety inspections and controls on the production of food and how it is labeled poses additional obvious risks.
Stripping environmental protection laws poses an assortment of threats so obvious as to present a clear and present danger.
This administration seems intent on legitimizing the mugging and purse snatching of the general public while exempting the wealthy and their corporate cronies with executive orders being their weapon of choice.
I would like to think that people have a greater integrity and more sense than to be persuaded by cookies and coffee, or alternative facts and sound bites for that matter.
