It’s been my personal opinion for some time that now former FBI director James Comey should have resigned.
Notwithstanding that if Comey’s firing in the midst of multiple investigations into Russian hacking to influence the election and various associates of Trumps brings back memories of the Watergate era and Nixon’s sacking of Special Prosecutor Archibald Cox then it should, and Comey’s firing something a blind man could have seen coming.
The current administration has not only staunchly refused to even consider an independent investigation but has done everything in it’s power to obstruct.
If there was a “leak” problem before I anticipate an opening of the floodgates now.
There are rumblings about two separately impaneled grand juries looking into all this, if true they would I believe be beyond the heavy handed reach of Trump and we might well expect either subpoenas or actual charges to be brought.
There’s going to be huge uproar about the timing of Comey’s firing, and there should be whether you are a supporter of his or not.
Republicans may favor loud mouthed bullies like their president and politicians but the rest of the nation does not, and I believe getting sick and tired of it.
Tired of the ignorance and stupidity, tired of the in your face sense of entitlement and rules only apply to everyone else, tired of somehow being above it all.
To make matters worse we’re going to have to endure another round of the Kellyanne Conway, Sean Spicer, and Sarah Huckabee Sanders equivalent of the Kukla, Fran, and Ollie puppet show.
Trump following in the footsteps of Nixon just gave the finger to the public and it’s going to be interesting seeing who he selects to fill the vacancy – somebody along the lines of Flynn or Sessions no doubt.
As to Comey no tears should be shed, he’s set for the rest of his life – there will be the inevitable book deal, speaking engagements, and in all likelihood a position with some high end law firm.
It would be a service to the nation if Comey took the politically correct gloves off and just stepped up an laid it all on the table, but that isn’t going to happen, it isn’t part of the “code” and the code always trumps all other considerations.

And here it is folks immediately above – an update I just learned of this morning re grand juries and subpoenas.
To clarify a point James Comey didn’t initially hold a press conference, he was called to testify before Congress after first having sent a confidential letter to members.
