Tim Tebow has that kneeling thing going on that became something of a cultural fad for a brief moment in sports world fandom and now it’s the Trump curtsy.
I think if you’re a politician visiting another country the correct thing to do as a guest is to observe customs and protocol.
But Trump set the stage as he has with just about anything else you can think of for the ridicule he’s received doing his Miss Manners routine when you consider his hoof in mouth twitter rants concerning former president Obama bowing to heads of state.
Quick to defend are his supporters who never saw a position they couldn’t abandon as quickly as their dear leader – he says jump and they ask how high on the way up, he says act stupid and they oblige.
A case in point is Russia, the historically favored boogey man under the bed conservatives couldn’t despise and denigrate enough.
A sort of badge, a proof that you really are a gun totin’ don’t tread on me “patriot”.
Suddenly though, and predictably I might add Trump’s minions have nothing much to say about Putin or Russia, suddenly Russian intervention in U.S. elections isn’t that big of a deal, suddenly everything they’ve ever railed about related to Russia and communism isn’t really all that important.
I’ve never had much use for or considered anything this type of “patriot” said or thought to have any meaningful value, even less now when just as you begin to think they can’t make a bigger fool of themselves they prove you wrong.
Poverty is a recognized social evil, ignorance a greater one I believe.
The first shot fired at Concord, Massachusetts that began the Revolutionary War has come to be known as “the shot heard round the world”, Trump’s ever so delicate curtsy has become the curtsy seen round the world.
