A twofer Friday:
You know, I actually have a measure of sympathy for conservative voters when looking at the candidate choices they have – mediocrity and ineptitude are the bywords.
I doubt this will be seen as a deterrent though as facts and reality are no part of the equation, it’s about allegiance and nothing more.
It’s about a slash and burn policy when it comes to the environment, it’s about perpetuating income inequality when it comes to a minimum wage and if you’re sick and can’t afford it too damn bad.
It’s about the opportunity or lack of for a child to receive a quality education depending on the ability to pay and the funding of schools.
None of these pressing social issues matter, they are supplanted by more important issues like whether a person should be able to own or carry an assault weapon in public, how tough the rhetoric can be when comes to kicking ass and taking names of enemies real, imaged, or cultivated.
It’s about “family values” that are a corruption of true family values and Bible thumping wild eyed religious zealots.
It’s about lining up behind “militias” and “patriots” who qualify as neither, or quoting the Constitution and citing Amendments without possessing the equivalent understanding of said Constitution and Amendments of a sixth grade student.
It’s about a rejection of diversity and maintaining the status quo at any cost in a bizarre Mephisto Waltz that attempts to make right look wrong and wrong look like right.
It’s about kow towing politicians subjugating themselves and the country to individuals like Grover Norqvist, the Kochs, and Limbaugh while waving the flag and raffling off a personal shotgun.
If it’s all to be cast as good against evil or luciferian plots as some would claim better then if conservative candidates use the Rolling Stones song Sympathy for the Devil as a campaign song for their proposals are intrinsically “evil”.
