Personally I like the rain, the thunder that accompanies it reverberating throughout your being, the flashes of lightning illuminating even the darkest of nights while casting shadows that inspire the imagination like laying on your back and looking at clouds.
All of it speaking a variety of things and striking a primordial chord despite the inconvenience and even devastation it can cause at times.
Nature never took into consideration that people would elect to build in flood plains or alongside rivers. That they would build beach houses in hurricane zones or cities and homes in tornado alleys and along earthquake faults – that isn’t to minimize the devastation or suffering that can occur, merely an observation.
Rivers flood and deposit silt that enriches the land, a part of the natural order, fires other than those man made also enrich the soil and lead to new growth. I’m not sure what role hurricanes and tornadoes play in natures scheme of things but assume there must be one.
El Nino is forming in the Pacific and said to bring with it temperature changes as well as the potential to alleviate the drought in California and directly influence the hurricane season in the Atlantic. Both a good thing.
Amazing when you think about it, but the real weather related dangers will be the result of man made climate change, it’s direct impact on naturally occurring events.
Man in his infinite wisdom or ignorance depending on which side of the fence you are on has gleefully taken to heart the biblical axiom of dominion over all things while ignoring the identical source that admonishes to be good stewards.
A belated awareness has begun to manifest among the global population, an awareness ridiculed and minimized by those either in denial or primarily focused on maintaining dominion as it translates to profit.
Rogue corporations and rogue nations playing Russian Roulette with the health and welfare of every living thing on this planet while governments pay a public lip service to addressing it and pave the way for further abuse with favorable legislation and tax loopholes.
Representative government? You bet – representing those who can buy their vote, and it doesn’t matter if they wear a donkey’s tail, an elephants trunk, or sip tea with the Mad Hatter.
Doesn’t matter what state or nations banner they wave, whose flag lapel pin they wear, or what “oath” of allegiance they take, they all serve the same master.
You might think you’re a free man or free woman, but the reality is no one is free from the gluttony and machinations of corporate greed and the subservience of “officials” that facilitates such greed.
Likewise no one is free from the environmental impact either – if that doesn’t make you mad as hell as far as your health and welfare are concerned then it should at least as far as it concerns the health and welfare of your children.
You can buy them whatever toys and electronic gadgets you like, maybe congratulate yourself for doing so, but if you to want provide them with something substantial of lasting value you need to invest your time, money, and efforts in securing a user friendly environment for them.
A future where GMOs don’t exist and bees abound, where they won’t have to remain inside or wear a mask due to smog alerts, a future where water doesn’t have to be boiled or filtered to drink, won’t ignite if you hold a match near it.
Yeah, I like the rain…..acid rain we can all do without.
