I think generally speaking people are entitled to their own beliefs, the qualifier being that entitlement should be predicated on the concept of doing no harm.
There are few belief systems that could be said to adhere to this principle whether they be political or religious, for both have been characterized by wars and unspeakable acts of cruelty.
In the case of religion such acts have always been characterized as being of divine mandate, a religious duty, which in Christianity has been a complete contradiction of stated principles.
The above photo speaks volumes to the nature of zealotry, which in part has been to instill a fear, something religions have an undeniable expertise in, often acting as though the sword is mightier than the penned words of their holy books.
Fear of the unknown, fear of the possibilities related to an afterlife, and ultimately free of conquest – conquest based on murder and enslavement “legitimized” by doctrines of Manifest Destiny, papal bulls, and doing the “lord’s work”.
In essence a license to kill, a fatwah issued from on high.
Religion should provide comfort for the believer, the hallmarks of which would be compassion and harmony , when it fails to do so it then amounts to little more than a doctrine of conquest and enslavement both emotional and physical.
If as a people the nations were to rise up and declare that all who fail to believe as we do are heretics and infidels the response would be predictable.
If we attempted “crusades” or “holy wars” to advance our beliefs the response would be equally predictable, and that should lead others to ponder the nature of their beliefs rather than claiming god is on their side in the midst of committing atrocities.
The nations have always known about “god and sin”, prior to the invasion our communities were reflective of that, the decline began in part with the forced introduction of Christianity , the “love” and “forgiveness” it displayed, the undeniable patriarchal face of it that marginalized women and promoted the concept that the rod shouldn’t be spared in the upbringing of children.
One thing we have been spared though due to our poverty is the scam of “prosperity doctrine” that enriches the grifters promoting it, or if we are slain in a “holy way” that indiscriminately brutalizes men, women, and children we’ll go directly to heaven.
The reality is that proselytizing zealots regardless of their particular religious beliefs bring a very real hell with them, and one would think if the concept of a hell they promote is the way of it they may well have a reserved a place for themselves there.
