Republicans/Conservatives and their phony family and religious “values”
Was it your Christian god that enacted genocidal “laws” in this land, in this hemisphere as a means to an end, to establish “order” ?
How about slavery, afro americans being bought and sold, their families being torn apart, or the “schools” our children were sent to ………God authored?
Franklin Graham after months, years even has put on a pair of big boy pants and finally, uncharacteristically, actually raised his voice against this administration’s policy – actually spoken as the Christian he proclaims to be…….. well welcome to the human race Franklin.
How long before you “backslide” into the Trumpian Evangelical herd to bleat anew about how the “lord” has chosen Trump?
I read elsewhere a day or two ago that when the children, over fifteen hundred of them to date are taken from their parents the parents were told it was all about giving them a bath and new clothes.
Is it just me or does that sound a lot like the death camps in Nazi Germany or the “boarding schools where our children were taken ?
Christians and a Christian nation? Bullshit.
A nation that wasn’t satisfied with killing our children or kidnapping them and as yet to learn a single damn thing from it’s own shameful history.
Brilliant Colbert take on Anthony Scaramucci aka “the Mooch”.
Here’s something to consider as the noose continues to tighten around this administration – since the appointment of Scaramucci the denigrating of AG Jeff Sessions has reached new levels and I’m convinced he is on his way out.
The justice in this if true is that Sessions will not only lose his job but will not be able to reclaim his Senate seat – the price to pay for selling out and supporting an egomaniacal lying buffoon.
At the core of this is Sessions recusing himself from the investigation related to Russia – ergo he can’t effectively obstruct it, he can’t “protect” the president as Trump seems to believe he should.
Sessions recusal ultimately paved the way for the appointment of former FBI Director Robert Mueller as a special prosecutor – a man who was overwhelming praised and approved during his confirmation hearing for head of the FBI by both parties.
Mueller has let it be known he is fully empowered to investigate not only Trump’s tax records and business dealings but those of his family and fully intends to do just that.
A potential exists in this for all hell to break loose, to clearly expose Trump – so what to do?
First off get rid of Sessions and appoint a new AG who won’t be restricted by recusal and willing to play ball with Trump.
A new AG that will pick up the cudgel and attack Mueller, an attack meant to either marginalize Mueller’s investigation or lead to his firing.
The Mooch fits the bill for a Trump flunky to a T, he’s a shameless fan boy, just as it would be reasonable to assume any new AG would also be.
It’s been my personal opinion for some time that now former FBI director James Comey should have resigned.
Notwithstanding that if Comey’s firing in the midst of multiple investigations into Russian hacking to influence the election and various associates of Trumps brings back memories of the Watergate era and Nixon’s sacking of Special Prosecutor Archibald Cox then it should, and Comey’s firing something a blind man could have seen coming.
The current administration has not only staunchly refused to even consider an independent investigation but has done everything in it’s power to obstruct.
If there was a “leak” problem before I anticipate an opening of the floodgates now.
There are rumblings about two separately impaneled grand juries looking into all this, if true they would I believe be beyond the heavy handed reach of Trump and we might well expect either subpoenas or actual charges to be brought.
There’s going to be huge uproar about the timing of Comey’s firing, and there should be whether you are a supporter of his or not.
Republicans may favor loud mouthed bullies like their president and politicians but the rest of the nation does not, and I believe getting sick and tired of it.
Tired of the ignorance and stupidity, tired of the in your face sense of entitlement and rules only apply to everyone else, tired of somehow being above it all.
To make matters worse we’re going to have to endure another round of the Kellyanne Conway, Sean Spicer, and Sarah Huckabee Sanders equivalent of the Kukla, Fran, and Ollie puppet show.
Trump following in the footsteps of Nixon just gave the finger to the public and it’s going to be interesting seeing who he selects to fill the vacancy – somebody along the lines of Flynn or Sessions no doubt.
As to Comey no tears should be shed, he’s set for the rest of his life – there will be the inevitable book deal, speaking engagements, and in all likelihood a position with some high end law firm.
It would be a service to the nation if Comey took the politically correct gloves off and just stepped up an laid it all on the table, but that isn’t going to happen, it isn’t part of the “code” and the code always trumps all other considerations.
And here it is folks immediately above – an update I just learned of this morning re grand juries and subpoenas.
Comedian and actor Jerry Lewis has been around for a long time, and the Muscular Dystrophy Telethon he founded for decades.
A theme that came to be associated with the telethon call for contributions was “Do it for Jerry’s kids”.
I have no idea how many people donated over the years or how much was given, but I did know a couple with a dystrophic child who had nothing but praise for Lewis and the MDA for the care and help they had provided, and I’m willing to take their word for it.
A current administrational theme seems to be “Do it for Donald’s kids” as a blatant nepotism fills the halls of government – might be different if any of the brood actually had experience, but they don’t, and it becomes something of an infestation like the one NYC experienced a few years ago concerning bedbugs.
Yet the public is expected to do it for Trump’s kids with a smiling acceptance and overlook the shortcomings and motivations.
It’s taken a long time for the public to arrive at a point where they’re beginning to have enough of the Clintons, significantly less than that for a comparable sentiment to grow related to the current dynasty seekers.
This egregious in your face nepotism became a topic of discussion between myself and a Trumpkin.
They attempted to make the argument as did daddy’s boy Eric Trump that nepotism is a part of life and therefore entirely acceptable.
Thinking they were firing a salvo it would be impossible to overcome they with a smug look of gotcha brought up Robert Kennedy, the brother of then president JFK and his appointment as USAG.
The look faded when I informed them Bobby Kennedy had a long history as a prosecutor and had effectively focused on organized crime prior to his appointment, which meant nepotism or no he was more than adequately qualified for the position.
Even more to the point Robert Kennedy had actually read the Constitution, understood it, and in a variety of instances championed the rights of people in accordance with it’s precepts – that if they’d actually taken a few minutes to do a little fact checking rather than rely on sound bites and snippets they would have known this.
Had Bobby Kennedy not been assassinated, secured his parties nomination for the presidency, and gone on to win I believe the nation as a whole would have benefited from that.
Ronald Reagan, who in their innermost dreams and aspirations Republican politicians long to be equated to, once likened politics to the “world’s oldest profession (prostitution) – a comparison I believe has become increasingly obvious.
This meme about Trump as an icon of business acumen amounts to little more than smoke and mirrors – there is nothing astute about filing bankruptcy multiple times,“settling” out of court and paying fines, nor hiding your tax returns.
A history of bankruptcy carries with it the possibility of bankrupting the nation – an association that includes a history of commiserating with shadowy figures won’t lend itself to boom times and national solvency.
Nor will prostituting the ethical standards of governance by installing out of touch, unqualified children merely because you believe you can.
The smack downs are slowly taking place – people are beginning to raise hell about a number of things.
Things like Michael Flynn that led to his departure, Steve Bannon being demoted, Devin Nunes exposing his running interference for the WH and having to step aside, Jeff Sessions having to recuse himself from investigations related to Russian campaign interference, and Paul Ryan seemingly being positioned as the fall guy for Trump’s trumped up healthcare reform.
Maybe a Trump supporter can summon up a fact or two to post a comment explaining these things, maybe they can at the same time defend the Trump brand of nepotism for fun and profit and while they’re at it present a coherent argument why a single one of Trump’s brood should be given a security clearance allowing access to intel briefings and a seat in committees, or anything other a visitors pass to the WH?
An onerous task perhaps because the make America great and fake news bullshit isn’t going to fly – at least not on this blog.
Trump’s scalp wasn’t lifted but protesters got close enough to the colonial seat of power to make there presence known and qualify as counting coup in these modern times.
Reactions from the Donald are limited based upon his personality – a twitter rampage isn’t likely due to the global amount of support and the fact his administration is catching enough heat already, so that only leaves a couple of options – silence, or for Trump to proclaim no one has more respect for the nations indigenous people than he does and we all love him.
I’m sure everyone knows how that goes – pick a demographic, even the one whose sending all those “rapists” and Trump can tell you all about his respect for them and how much they love him.
Or he possibly could go for another scandal to divert attention from a previous one like he did as a followup to the Sessions revelations and recusal by announcing Obama had personally ordered wiretapping at his version of a Kmart inspired motifed Graceland he calls Trump Tower.
Which in a way reminds me of the bowers Bower Birds construct to attract attention, the louder and more over the top the better they like it.
The above graphic represents the short list.
Comments have previously been made by the “fashionista” about the length of Trumps ties which now pale in comparison to the length of his ties to Russia.
As to ties related to wardrobe I could care less if Trump’s dragged on the ground – don’t own one and have no desire to, but the Russian ties should be a matter of concern for everyone.
Well surprise surprise, USAG Jeff Sessions has recused himself from participating in an investigation into Russian campaign hacking.
This predictably followed by Trump’s announcement he has the utmost confidence in Sessions.
Sean Spicer, press secretary extraordinaire, has responded to his strings being pulled and rose to Sessions defense – next will be the “fake news” spin and a twitter rampage.
I wouldn’t exactly refer to this as voluntary decision, more of aas result following the disclosure that Sessions like so many of Trump’s hand picked cronies was communicating with the Russians during the presidential campaign and the “grand old party” has been catching enough heat as it is.
It could have gotten more than a little embarrassing had he not of in viewing of the fact that he was quick to call for a special counsel to investigate the meeting between former USAG Loretta Lynch and Bill Clinton on the runway at the Phoenix airport, neither of which are Russian by the way.
I have to admit I love it when an individual like Sessions has a position they’ve taken for purely political reasons comes back and bites them squarely in the ass.
What this translates to is Sessions will not be able to obstruct an investigation or run interference for Trump – that duty now falls directly into the lap of a Republican controlled Congress.
Sessions like Trump had his chance pre and post appointment, nothing to give the man a “chance” about or reason to “wait and see” – time for Sessions to hit the road just as Flynn did, another appointee who had memory problems when questioned about his activities.
On the face of it if an appointed official has such a bad memory they can’t recall meetings with Russian officials they certainly couldn’t be expected or qualified to run a government agency could they?
Sessions like Trump etal are known commodities whose records speak for themselves, any virtues they may have would have surfaced long ago.
The media has assigned colors to the two major parties – blue for Democrats and Red for Republicans – suddenly the color red has taken on a new meaning for the current administration.
The role reversal position wise between the Dems and Reps is tangible – previously Russia was the avowed enemy of Conservatives, give no quarter and ask none, while Liberals seemed more measured in their approach.
Now the Reps have taken a different tact – Putin and Russia aren’t so much the enemy anymore as victims of “fake news” and false accusations as the Reps go all out Rodney King insisting that can’t we all just get along and move on ?
For them Putin and Russia represent business opportunities and new markets, perhaps even loans and deals to bail out Trump during 2008 / 2009, not to mention the potential threat of exposure that could purge King Trump and his Court from the White House.
Reason enough for Trump to refuse to release his tax returns – reason enough for his cohorts to block any potential legislation that would allow the IRS to do so independently.
Oh yeah – there’s nothing here, it’s all been settled and can’t we just move on and make America great?
On another note Trump is quoted as saying coal miners have no imagination, if they did they would leave the mines.
So if that’s his belief what exactly is he doing to facilitate that?
Is he taking an environmental approach to move away from fossil fuels and in doing so initiate training programs for miners that would allow them to move on and possibly work in the develop of renewable energy or infrastructure?
Not a chance, he’s committed to facilitating profit margins for the billionaires club.
I don’t smoke pot, never have and don’t believe I ever will, and contrary to the claim that marijuana was some kind of sacred herb with a long history of use by the nations you can set that aside as coming from the same quadrant that would have you believe that our nations never engaged in inter tribal warfare and market our ceremonies.
At the same time there’s been something of an evolution in the approach I take to marijuana while I continue to maintain there are associated issues that need to be addressed.
I’m actually looking at Sessions statement as a good thing, not because I’m opposed to people using marijuana, I’m not, rather that there is an estimated 30 million pot smokers in this country and that translates to more people taking it to the streets to protest the Trump regime.
And a sustained unrelenting nationwide protest involving a variety of issues at this point in time may be the only thing that can make a difference.
Trump has made a big deal in the past about being supportive of states rights, but then he’s done the same with anything else he thought he could bullshit people about.
Apparently he isn’t behind states rights when it comes to sanctuary cities, and now apparently when it comes to marijuana use either.
California announced that Trump could take a hike with his war against those who acknowledge climate change is a reality, they’ll launch their own satellite and pursue state mandated legislation to address it.
I like that, and expect California and a few other notable states will tell Trump to likewise take a hike when it comes to their states ability to legislate marijuana.
If Sessions wants to talk about unhealthy and violence he needs to take a look at alcohol as a major vehicle of both – how many accidents, assaults, spousal abuse, and murders involve alcohol?
How many lives and homes has alcohol destroyed? How about the reality that alcohol is a well established facilitator of stds?
How about gambling and casinos – think they haven’t a number of associated issues? Think crime isn’t often a silent partner or countless lives haven’t been destroyed due to gambling addictions?
I’ve known pot smokers who are total slugs qualifying as some sort of vegetable species, and I’ve known pot smokers who get up, go to work, and are what society would refer to as productive.
But I can also say the same of those who drink and even those who neither use pot nor alcohol.
Hard drugs? A different story in my opinion and I’m completely in favor of a relentless hounding of dealers to the ground, big time when convicted, and treatment for addicts.
If pot were legal and usage regulated in some manner I believe the whole dynamic would change, crimes associated with the “bootleg” industry side of it would disappear or be minimized just as they were when prohibition was repealed.
If Sessions wants to pretend he’s Captain America he needs to focus on issues like Russian hacking and corporate criminal activities rather than kiss the hand of his master.
