You know, oaths and standards have defined a lot of professions and vocations over the years, even over the centuries. For the most part they are codes related to ethics.
Codes like the Hippocratic Oath, part of which is to do no harm.
Attorneys swear among other things to support the Constitution,and though there may be minor tweaks from state to state they basically adhere to the guidelines cited below that are required to take when admitted to the bar. This example is the one employed by the state of South Dakota:
16-16-18. Oath of attorney–Form and administration. The oath of attorney shall be administered by a justice or judge of any state appellate court or court of general jurisdiction or by a justice or judge of any federal appellate or district court. The form of the oath of attorney shall be in substance as follows:
I do solemnly swear, or affirm, that:
I will support the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of South Dakota;
I will maintain the respect due to courts of justice and judicial officers;
I will not counsel or maintain any suit or proceeding which shall appear to me to be unjust, nor any defense except such as I believe to be honestly debatable under the law of the land;
I will employ for the purpose of maintaining the causes confided to me such means only as are consistent with truth and honor, and will never seek to mislead the judge or jury by any artifice or false statement of fact or law;
I will maintain the confidence and preserve inviolate the secrets of my client, and will accept no compensation in connection with a client’s business except from that client or with the client’s knowledge or approval;
I will abstain from all offensive personality, and advance no fact prejudicial to the honor or reputation of a party or witness, unless required by the justice of the cause with which I am charged;
I will never reject, from any consideration personal to myself, the cause of the defenseless or oppressed, or delay any person’s cause for lucre or malice.
I don’t know if this is it in it’s entirety but it is the last paragraph which speaks the loudest to me: …..OR DELAY ANY PERSON’S CAUSE FOR LUCRE OR MALICE.
Now I can’t say if lucre was involved in the “psychodrama” Arlo participated in, but I think it’s safe to say with what was potentially at stake a certain amount of malice and apprehension were present.
A malice and apprehension generated by the fear that Arlo would name the administrator of this charade, Charles Abourezk, as being complicit in the events that led to murder of Annie Mae Aquash. Which by what Arlo has clearly said he was, and of course James Abourezk, patriarch of the clan has taken exception to that. Go figure huh?
We all know that there are good doctors and bad doctors-good attorneys and bad attorneys, and it doesn’t take more than few egregiously bad doctors or attorneys to sway public opinion. The health care industry is a fiasco due mostly to insurance companies and big Pharma-the “Law” has become an instrument of language and status-of rhetoric and influence-so in both cases the crap runs downhill and the good get painted with the same brush as the bad.
There’s been some highly questionable “legal eagles” running with the AIM crowd, Abourezk may lead that group, but Bruce Ellison is running a close second. Statements of witnesses have placed him in the midst of the interrogation of Annie shortly before her murder-he has been named a co conspirator and draped himself in the fifth amendment anytime he was a called upon to answer a few related questions.
Then there’s that thing about smuggling saw blades to Peltier Ellison was involved in , but we’ll get into that a little deeper in another blog.
Ellison if you recall is also the attorney of internet video fame who says the FBI with smirking countenance tossed the box containing Annie’s hands to him. That’s to HIM-problem is he isn’t the only person to make the claim of being the recipient-another example of the AIM camps inability to stay on the same page and keep their story straight.
But that’s kind of what happens when something other than the truth is being told.
It’s interesting though that regardless of how many lies they get caught in-how many different pages they read from, how many oaths and codes they violate, they still wander around free doing whatever it is they do.
But that’s not all-we have another attorney who ran with the AIM gang-that would be Ken Tilsen of the I don’t know how I came into possession of Annie’s wallet but I’m sending it on to you. Ken Tilsen one time member of the communist party and the founder of Wounded Knee Legal Defense Offense Committee.
An attorney whose memory is so bad he just can’t seem to recall something as simple as that. Just happened to run across it in a desk drawer one day. Hey, maybe the little people put it there-maybe the little people rifled through it before it found it’s way home to Annie’s family.
Makes me think memory loss was a contagion that affected everybody within AIM and those associated with them.
Memory loss, the fifth amendment, and knowledge of how to work the law-the cocktail of choice during those happy hour get togethers or sitting around the campfire with those AIM warriors.
Wonder if they’ll all be drinking from that sacred chalice cast for pe sla now?
