The evidence continues to mount that Trump supporters haven’t a clue about much of anything.
They’re like mass produced wind up toys coming off an assembly line – wind them up and they march in the same lock step saying what they’ve been programmed to say.
I’m not a Constitutional expert nor have I ever claimed to be one, but in researching many of the treaties the nations entered into with the government it was only natural if not essential to become familiar with the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and related Supreme Court rulings.
Additionally that led to familiarizing myself with the Federalist Papers and Thomas Paine’s Common Sense.
My suggestion for Trump’s supporters is that they put down the yellow journalism rag mags they favor, take a break from Dumbbart, Fox News etc, their favored “reality shows”, and instead familiarize themselves with the precepts this nation was supposedly founded upon.
If their professed concern is indeed about making America great the Constitution and Bill of Rights as written would be a good starting point.
I have a friend whose given to say when a person makes a fool of themselves that they “tore their ass” – in this instance tore seems kind of mild, shredded would be more like it.
As a person not afflicted by an affiliation with any political party as mentioned previously I don’t have a problem with the current administrations missile strikes in Syria if the information is correct.
What’s always interested me though and I do have a problem with is the unswerving devotion of those affiliated with the Trump administration either as advisor, cabinet appointee, or supporter is their willingness to go for the proverbial fried bananas and in the process cast personal dignity and any respect for facts aside.
The norm has been when an issue comes to the fore to create a diversion, hold a “campaign” rally, trot out Conway with some “alternative facts”, enlist the services of a media outlet like Fox News to misdirect, make some bogus claims, or with an individual like Hannity show their ass on twitter.
They take their cue from Trump, and in doing so look every bit as untrustworthy as he does.
When the backlash related to “healthcare reform” swelled the misdirect became Trump’s now thoroughly discredited claim that Obama had wiretapped him.
This claim was intended to divert attention from the healthcare debacle, and it did, but not in the desired manner.
In fact it backfired as the Russian attempted influence in the previous election led to multiple investigations and discovery of associations between Trump campaign minions and appointees.
Another diversion became necessary, something to stir the patriotic fervor of the diehards – enter the recent military actions and talking tough.
Trump and this administration would have you believe they are all about human rights, all about the welfare of civilian populations, children, and “beautiful babies” inspite of their approach to defund any and everything related to the welfare of children in this country.
If you actually believe a word of the rhetoric you’ll probably be receiving a coupon in the mail from the Trump administration for a complimentary serving of those fried bananas.
There’s an independent film by the name of Barfly that features Mickey Rourke as a hopeless drunk, at one point Rourke’s character offers the observation that it takes endurance to be a drunk, and I suppose it must as would any self destructive pursuit.
I think the same could be said of the “make America great crowd” – they might not have anything else but they’ve got endurance, believing that endurance is more important than the truth.
From the film and Rourke’s character Henry Chinaski:
Henry: Anybody can be a non-drunk. It takes a special talent to be a drunk. It takes endurance. Endurance is more important than truth.
Here’s a link the Trumpkins will want to avoid talking about:
“To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”
― Theodore Roosevelt
I was at a lumber yard the other day and overheard a conversation between a couple of men – one was going on about fake news and giving Trump a chance and the other was taking him to school.
What I found interesting was the level of denial accompanied by a noticeable uptick in the decibel level of the Trumpkin when confronted by facts which he could not counter and ultimately led him to storm out to his Trump bumper sticker ladened truck and roar off.
The truck was almost as much of a trip as the Trumpkin – it had the obligatory make America great bumper stickers, America love it or leave it, Lock her up, and of course to round out the ensemble a flag attached to the antenna.
Oh, and did I mention the camo hat and t shirt with an eagle imposed over the flag the trumpkin was wearing?
All in all it was a pathetic performance by a man who interspiced his attempted rebuttals with words like patriot, which he proclaimed he was at least a half dozen times, and the Constitution.
What’s a little confusing is a couple of weeks prior I had seen this same man in a convenience store holding forth but the gd corporations and how it was tougher and tougher to make ends meet.
Apparently he’s oblivious to the fact that Trump is the poster boy for corporations and things are going to get a lot more tougher.
Or possibly, and more likely, he isn’t familiar with the words fact checking – facts can be very unsettling and chop a fact free argument off at the knees.
When circumstances do get tougher I imagine he and his brethren will find a way to assign blame other than where it belongs.
When it comes to fake news and the trumpkins the amount of material is as infinite as the grains of sand on a beach and rather than have this particular blog run into the thousands of words enumerating them I’ve opted to let the above images speak for themselves.
In a way I feel kind of sorry for the man, he’s a working man out trying to earn a living for his family, I respect that – he no doubt feels as though the government has become deaf, dumb, and blind as a great many on both sides of the aisle do, as I do.
But the separation between he and I begins and ends with his belief that Trump represents good times and Christmas all wrapped up in one – that Trump will actually adhere to Constitutional principles, the law, or do a single thing he and his family will benefit from.
