Evangelicals apparently would have everyone believe they have a hotline with Creator, kind of like one of those presidential red phones you see in the movies.
They’re in direct communication, the evolution from the party of Lincoln to the party of divine mandate and family values complete.
Skeptical about that? One need only look at the handpicked field of candidates, the “prophets” like Trump, Cruz, etal they offer during election season to come to the realization there is a divine influence taking place (not) and woe unto the unbeliever.
Think Jesus would have picked one of these clowns to lead his people or as a disciple?
Of course there’s always the fall back when a candidate loses that it wasn’t god’s will that they win which seems more than a little contradictory.
Does that imply that god is a Democrat, an Independent, or something of a jokester? It couldn’t possibly be that evangelicals are full of it could it?
Evangelicals kind of remind me of that sect, cult, or church if you prefer that have become known as snake handlers – they seem attracted to venomous reptiles and displays of embracing them as they dance and cavort around.
Now I don’t have a problem with the snake handlers – diiferent sceanrio if the snakes they handle were offered as candidates, worse if elected.
I do have a problem with the promotion of snakes offered by political parties – and that woud be any political party.
I’m not all that keen on Lincoln either for that matter – the man who “freed” the slaves to create internal strife in the South and add manpower to the Union army – don’t misconstrue what I’m saying as as slavery never should have existed but Lincoln’s actions were more military strategy that humane and he came late to the game.
Lincoln’s the man who while “holding” the Union together was set to execute two hundred of our indigenous men by hanging until the global outcry was such he reduced the number to thirty eight and then went ahead.
Mass executions, think about that, isn’t it something as a person you would condemn if it were ISIS or some other terrorist group?
Would you protest if the U.S. attempted the same today of prisoners within the the confines of continental boundaries though you might find acceptable what often amounts to mass executions involving innocents that are part and parcel of drone strikes?
As nations should our people just kind of shrug it off and adopt a that was then and this is now attitude?
Would you, or would it become embedded in your cultural and possibly direct personal ancestral memory as it has for us?
Evangelicals have become political animals ignoring their biblical directive to be in the world but not of it – I guess the closest practioners of being apart would be groups like the Amish – known a couple and found them to be good people though I’m sure there are exceptions just as there are among Christians I know.
In the Old Testament there’s a lot of war and killing, a lot of that “slewing” going on, all it seems as divine mandate as the story is told.
I sometimes wonder if in the societal sense whether the evangelicals should be viewed as having a dove in one hand and olive branch in the other, or a sword and thorns?
As I understand it Christians aren’t under what is referred to as the Mosaic law that existed in the OT, the NT is the fulfillment of it’s prophecies and they are freed from the law – if that’s correct what do the evangelicals base their militaristic stance on?
Their open desire to “slay” and “slew” while waving “Caesar’s” flag and going on about that agape love?
Is that the render unto Caesar what is Caesar’s thing? Do they not only want to be of the world but control it as well?
A little curious to me how for centuries relgion dictated culture in view of the reversal now where culture dictates religion, the transformational influence that is taking place.
A transformation characterized by a lust for political power, snakes, televangelists, and outright scams like the ” prosperity doctrine”.
But then I’m just one of those raggedy ass ndns probably incapable of understanding such profound things and have to rely upon what seems obvious – you know, if it walks
and quacks like a duck then it probably is a duck.
Now if a person votes for Trump or Cruz and gets bitten will the evangelicals pray for them or say it was “the Lord’s will”?
