As the decline of family farms, ethics, the environment, and a moral rudder goes so goes a nation and it’s people.
One in a sort of series I posted a while back I’ve referred to as communion.
Why communion? Because that I believe is what takes place between pollinators and plants – an ancient and great clarity of purpose.
A dance if you will that was already aged, the steps so well known as to become instinctive long before the first footprint of man or woman appeared upon this planet or the cry of the first human infant was heard, and in this singular clarity of purpose a way was being made for that very infant and all who would follow.
I post it anew by request after viewing it and sharing these words with another.
I’ve known a few scrappers over time – people who collect recyclable items out of personal need or to augment their income.
They provide a worthy service in a society where disposable has come to be seen as an asset.
I believe everyone understands the Earth’s resources aren’t infinite, with that in mind salvage material when it comes to construction can pay dividends in a number of ways from reducing waste and the impact on the environment and saving money, to adding a distinctive rustic look if desired.
Might involve a little more work than just running to the lumberyard for new materials but worth the effort where and when warranted.
The photo of the above sheet of plywood is beyond salvaging, basically useless for anything other than drying out and using as firewood.
Wood remains wood but I believe it can be said in much of today’s retail offerings “they don’t make it like they used to” – a 2X4 measures anything but 2×4, indicative of an across the board shaving of points so to speak and quality hardwood requires deep pockets and not as plentiful as it once was.
I do work for people at times who have little or no money, and that’s where salvage can be of a real benefit – not just some boards or material to toss up but salvage that has been tuned so to speak.
Something that when finished can generate a little pride and sense of well being.
It’s a rare day when credit can be given to the current administration for telling the truth – one might even go so far as to liken such an occurrence to a miracle of biblical proportions.
An event on an epic scale like the parting the of the Red Sea or a man by the name of Noah building an ark and then gathering two of every living thing to ride out a global flood along with his family.
And yet a miracle has occurred, and since it is among a demographic that seeks to couch all things in a god fearing code of family values to avoid the comparisons is impossible.
The nature of this miracle? The administration and it’s minions have long declared the XL Keystone Pipeline to be a jobs creator – not only a national boon but a state by state boon for each it passes through.
Lo and behold such has become the case as oil spills become routine and jobs in the form of cleanup crews are created.
Now how good is that? And surely evidence as deranged evangelicals proclaim that not only the president but his elected and appointed cronies have been raised up by the lord himself to carry out his will.
The god fearing no longer need to read their bibles for inspiration or guidance, they need only heed the words of the ever growing number of those insisting they have been “anointed” and speak for the lord.
Evidence of this anointing can be founding in every drop of crude spilled upon the land as oil has historically been portrayed as the vehicle of anointing, not to mention the unctuous nature of these self styled prophets and messengers whose god is none other than Mammon spoken of in the book of Luke contained within the bible.
The bible is riddled with rogues, scoundrels, thieves, liars, and your all around neer do wells, and that has become the provenance for coddling the like in theses times.
Don’t believe that? Then name a time when when all of the above including sexual predators were held in the same high esteem by a political demographic among Christians as they are now – when they would have been allowed to run for an elected office or occupy one.
Yeah, I know – it would require nothing short of a miracle to be able do so.
The nature of environmental degradation is far from a local or national issue, it is global in scope – what happens anywhere impacts the environment everywhere, there is a cumulative effect that cannot be escaped.
But then maybe it’s just me – maybe I haven’t been “saved”, maybe I don’t understand “the lord’s will” in the same way I don’t understand why anyone would litter where they’ve been with beer bottles or anything else.
I’m not into cutting down trees without a good reason, if it’s poses a threat, is diseased, or already down that’s a different story as there is a lot that can be done with the wood from turning into mulch to using as firewood for heat and cooking or any number of construction projects.
I’m of the opinion that if you cut one down you should plant another.
VERTICAL FARMS are a viable approach to addressing multiple issues related to agriculture, quality, dwindling resources, and demand.
Local governments should make an effort to entice such companies to locate in their communities.
I suspect corporate owned farms and entities like Monsanto will attempt to mount some kind of legal offensive.
I’m pretty sure this will rattle a cage a two, might even get called a”fed” again as I have been when confronting AIM and addressing the many murders and crimes they committed, could lose a few “likes”, but “likes” don’t trump reality and I wouldn’t remain silent or say something I don’t belief if in doing so it generated a thousand likes.
One thing you have to say about pot smokers is they are committed as well as in a perpetual state of denial – they’ve got an answer for everything from pot is harmless because it’s “organic” to pot smokers don’t become violent as the result of indulging.
It may be troubling to say so but organic isn’t an across the board recommendation as many organic substances are toxic.
As to violent behavior maybe on an individual basis there isn’t much, perhaps none at all, but the industry is perpetuated by violence from drug cartels to dealers and gangs.
I believe a fair number of them will rail about GMOs and the like while ignoring they haven’t a clue about what exactly is in the pot they smoke.
Fact of the matter is pot increasingly contains “additives” like fentanyl among other substances which is an opioid to “enhance” the high.
No doubt many users consider themselves environmentalist, champions of a green environment as the evidence mounts that illegal marijuana farming and the associated toxic dumping has a devastating environmental affect.
One has to wonder if the associated pesticide use adds to the “high” as well and how users square that with their organic green beliefs.
I neither smoke pot, drink, or engage in activities that make zero sense to me – at the same time I don’t care if a person smokes pot or drinks as long as they don’t start acting stupid.
If they do either as a form of “recreation” and do so responsibly not a problem – but I’d question whether that face in the toilet vomiting thing is recreational in nature.
Sounds about as much fun as waterboarding or an enema.
And just for the record, that meme about pot was some revered mystical substance used by the nations during ceremonies etc is pure unadulterated bullshit propagated by those with an agenda.
A person might ask what about medicinal marijuana?
My response would be I have no problem with that and it’s probably light years cleaner and safer than what’s normally available on the streets.
With all the hue and cry about addictive additives in cigarettes since opioids are well known to be addictive does anyone want to discuss their presence in marijuana?
Would they like to explain the reason why there would be an additive? Could it be addiction and the perpetuation of a dealers market?
I’ve known people who would spend literally hundreds of dollars a month on pot, start coming unhinged and antsy if they ran out, some were forthright enough to admit they were addicted, others of course denied the very suggestion.
In the end if you want to smoke pot, drink, or do drugs, that”s on you, just don’t attempt to persuade me it’s all good as I ain’t buying it.
Casinos in kind of a contradiction of their express purpose to separate rubes from their money will post notices that if you have a gambling problem contact this number.
Cigarette manufacturers do pretty much the same – never having been in a legal pot store I wonder if they post a comparable message?
After all it doesn’t matter what kind of smoke you inhale smoke is smoke and isn’t good for your lungs or heart.
I’ve often said that in the midst of the gun control debate responsible owners need to step up and take back their right from fear mongering organizations, so called militia groups, and the NRA- I’ve said the same of political party members and church goers, they need to step up in a responsible way and take back their political party and the direction their church takes.
I’d say the same of responsible drinkers and pot smokers – time to step up.
Bottom line is if you don’t grow what you ingest whether it be food or pot you can’t claim to know everything it contains, and that ought to be something to think about.
That isn’t meant to encourage people to begin growing pot though I would advocate for planting a vegetable garden.
I’ve never issued a photo challenge like those you’ll see on other blogs and don’t expect I will though I can appreciate them.
But I would issue a sort of taste test “challenge” that should be very easy to meet – it being to do a side by side taste comparison between the GMO produce featured in grocery stores and an organically grown pesticide free item.
The difference is nothing short of remarkable.
The above photo of cherry tomatoes is an example – they are hands down light years ahead of their GMO counterparts in taste and nutritional value.
I think a lot of stores have dropped the ball in the midst of promoting organic foods by pricing some segment of the population out of the market, but I also believe the vast majority of people are capable of planting a little garden in their yard or community to offset that and in doing so do themselves, their families, and the environment a good turn.
A working partnership that pays huge dividends.
