Most people I’m sure are familiar with the term “one percenter”, few I imagine are with the fifteen percenters that compose and separate good cops from the bad ones.
The below link opens a window into the gang mentality of law enforcement .
Nothing “noble” about it, nothing praiseworthy, nothing about protecting and serving for the other eighty five percent.
If a person were considering starting a business and had an eighty five percent chance of failure I wonder how many would make the leap?
If a person contracted a disease with an eighty five percent mortality rate how optimistic would they be?
Should the public be optimistic that the issues with law enforcement and the courts will work themselves out based on a margin of fifteen percent or meaningless rhetoric?
I’m not inclined to think so and liken it to a leaking roof or faucet – leaks get worse, they never repair themselves without outside intervention. And that’s exactly what law enforcement and the courts require, outside intervention, oversight.
Public oversight with the ability to affect change….wait a minute, that kind of sounds like democracy doesn’t it? One might even be so bold as to say a participatory and representative democracy.
Well, that will never do as everyone knows that politicians and those with “authority” always have the greater understanding, always have the best interests of everyone at heart, and someday when we all grow up we’ll thank them for it.
“America love or it leave it” – what a load of bs. How about if those who work in opposition to the stated principles leave?
How about an across the board accountability?
Seems kind of a fad not long ago in the get tough on crime policy was to post billboards or newspaper articles with the names and photos of “johns” for all to see while delineating their offense – a type of public pillory.
I think it would serve a purpose to do likewise with rogue cops, prosecutors, judges, and politicians as well, plaster their faces all over town on billboards for one and all to see, strip them of whatever “authority” they may have and prosecute them.
Won’t happen though, it isn’t the nature of the beast.
